What Is the Stroop Effect?
The Stroop effect is the slowdown that occurs when your brain must respond to one part of a stimulus while ignoring another part that conflicts with it.
Imagine seeing the word GREEN printed in red ink. Reading “GREEN” happens almost automatically. But the task asks you to answer “Red.” Your brain has to suppress the stronger reading response and focus on the ink color instead.

Stroop Interference Score
A simple way to calculate Stroop interference is:
Average Incongruent Reaction Time − Average Congruent Reaction Time = Interference Score
Example: 710 ms − 560 ms = 150 ms interference
A smaller difference means the conflict added less delay during that session. A larger difference means the mismatched word and ink color had a stronger effect.
Do not treat a single interference score as a medical result. Trial count, test design, practice, language familiarity, response method, and testing environment can all change the number.
What Is a Good Stroop Test Score?
There is no universal online Stroop score that everyone should reach.
Different Stroop tests use different numbers of colors, trial counts, ratios of congruent to incongruent items, response methods, timing rules, and scoring formulas. Traditional clinical versions may also use spoken responses or standardized paper materials rather than browser buttons.
For this reason, avoid comparing your score with a random number from a different Stroop test.
A better goal is:

Fifty-Fifty Mode

Reverse Mode
